Will 75% of your databases be in Cloud by 2023?

The prophets at Gartner tell us that relational technology will continue to be used for at least 70% of new applications and projects through 2020, and that by 2023, 75% of all databases will be on a cloud platform.

Cloud is inevitable, right? Maybe for everyone else, but is it right for you? More so, which Cloud is the right one for your databases? AWS was the first, Azure has caught up, and Oracle has been an incredibly fast follower. If you run Oracle database, which most companies do, then it makes sense to look at Oracle's Cloud, particularly given Oracle's vision of Oracle Autonomous Database.

Oracle's Autonomous database uses Machine Learning to make the database self-driving or self-managing. By using Machine Learning and underlying hardware, Oracle can tune databases automatically, update and patch the database without downtime, and provide stronger security. This effort will reduce the routine tasks of a database administrator, while improving performance.

It's easy to see why interest for autonomous is growing; however, in our experience this is more-so for new database deployments rather than upgrades.
