The prophets at Gartner tell us that relational technology will continue to be used for at least 70% of new applications and projects through 2020, and that by 2023, 75% of all databases will be on a cloud platform.
Cloud is inevitable, right? Maybe for everyone else, but is it right for you? More so, which Cloud is the right one for your databases? AWS was the first, Azure has caught up, and Oracle has been an incredibly fast follower. If you run Oracle database, which most companies do, then it makes sense to look at Oracle's Cloud, particularly given Oracle's vision of Oracle Autonomous Database.
Oracle's Autonomous database uses Machine Learning to make the database self-driving or self-managing. By using Machine Learning and underlying hardware, Oracle can tune databases automatically, update and patch the database without downtime, and provide stronger security. This effort will reduce the routine tasks of a database administrator, while improving performance.
It's easy to see why interest for autonomous is growing; however, in our experience this is more-so for new database deployments rather than upgrades.
That is why DSP-Explorer have introduced an easy and innovative way to try Oracle Autonomous Database or Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, using a bite-size approach. DSP-Explorer has introduced Oracle Autonomous Data Warehouse - Bitesize and Oracle Cloud Bitesize.
The bitesize package is designed to kickstart your evaluation of Oracle Cloud by enhancing your knowledge, reducing risk, and helping you trial an Oracle Cloud migration with ease. The end goal is to determine what the measurable benefits of Cloud adoption would be for your organisation, specifically regarding lower costs, greater agility and better performance.
In short, yes. For example, Turkcell, a mobile phone service provider, trialled Oracle Autonomous Data Warehouse and found that performance increased by 270% for ETL tests and 500% for report generation. (Link to the study below).
For a lot of organisations, the story is similar for cost saving too. If you want to quickly understand the ball park costs of Cloud for your specific footprint then DSP's Oracle Cloud Calculator will calculate the costs for Oracle Cloud and AWS in around a minute.
Stonewater Housing Association was able to use DSP-Explorer's Oracle Cloud Calculator to understand the potential cost savings that Oracle Cloud could provide for their Oracle E-Business Suite system before starting a project. The results helped build the business case and motivation to make the leap to cloud. DSP-Explorer subsequently worked closely with their internal teams delivering all the necessary technical expertise (Apps DBA, Technical Architecture and PM) to ‘lift and shift’ the environments onto Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. Check out the case study here.
In summary, I encourage you to find your reason to evaluate cloud, whether it’s because Gartner told you to, Turkcell increased performance, Stonewater saved money, or DSP-Explorer made it easy.
