Have you ever asked for the ‘Best Price’?
One of our New business development team talks to us about the Database consolidation, licensing and the ‘best’ price …
“I wrote a previous blog on licensing woes last week. About avoiding licensing spend by consolidating databases and cleverly re-deploying existing assets.
Consolidation is all well and good, however once done, sooner or later you will need to buy some licences. It’s just a question of how much you will need to spend.
You’d typically go to your favourite reseller and consult a Licence Specialist - a particularly good one is Softcat – full of lovely people who are all experts in this field. And I’m not just saying that because they’re a close partner of DSP!
But whichever License partner you go to for a quote, have you ever asked the sales guy “Give me your BEST Price!” ?
Be careful what you ask for! A best price for a Sales person is usually the highest one! Ask for a best price, and you’ll get a best price – best for the sales person anyways!
But I say this mockingly. The majority of resellers, infrastructure providers and licence specialists are good and honest. Just be sure you go to a specialist sales person. They usually have your best interest at heart and typically work in a pre-sales fashion – consulting on your requirements and offering the most suitable offering.”
